A court in the U.K. has cleared a college rugby player who was accused of breaking another student’s eye socket after the student called him a “chink,” Court News UK reported this week.
Sidney Chan, a 20-year-old student athlete at London’s Imperial College who is of Chinese and Welsh heritage, allegedly kicked Kingston University student Stephen Kent twice outside a bar, breaking Kent’s nose and eye socket, according to Mirror.co.uk.
Chan claimed that he only pushed Kent in self-defense after Kent had called him a “chink.”

In July, Mark Langedijk, a middle aged man in Holland, was euthanized at his request due to his addiction to alcohol. The Netherlands is one of nine countries, including Canada and parts of the U.S., which allows assisted suicide for those living their lives with an “unbearable” illness or affliction. On November 28, 1994, Jeffrey Dahmer — aka “The Milwaukee Cannibal” — departed his cell in Wisconsin’s Columbia Correctional Institute for his work detail cleaning a bathroom next to the prison’s gym.
As Dahmer attended to his duties, Chrisopher Scarver, a fellow inmate doing life for a 1990 murder, savagely beat the notorious serial killer about the face and head with a smuggled-in iron bar. Scarver also repeatedly slammed Dahmer’s skull against a wall. Guards rushed the barely alive Dahmer to a local hospital, where he died an hour after arriving.
